GFC goalscorers: Mick McParland (2) - Ryan Durand
Three Goals -– Clean Sheet-– Games in Hand --- Very Good Day
1ST team:- Garry Lloyd - Calvin Ecobichan-Gray - James Begley - Russell Le Feuvre - Lee Sabiston - Craig Northedge - Ryan Durand - Jorge Marques - Mick McParland - Bradley Russell - Jody MacCarthy
Substitutes played: Alex Jeffries - Marc Nightingale
With Joel away, Luc and Syv’s injured and Scott still suspended. Begs and Jody start with a fit again Alex sharing the bench with the returning Marc Nightingale. The Groove started strongly, dominating play. The breakthrough came early. A fine Russell through ball, perfectly weighted into Ryan Durand’s path to expertly find the far corner of the net.
The game continued to be played in the Tower half, chances came and went. The best opportunity to extend the lead fell to Mick McParland , his low drive being saved well by Tower’s keeper. The second goal came just before the halftime whistle. Bradley Russell finding space in the box, his strongly hit shot could only be parried into the path of Mick Mc Parland who had the simplest job of slotting the ball home.
Half-Time 2-0
The second half started as the first with Grouville dominating. Our third goal game on 55mins. A fine cross from Ryan Durand well finished by an impressive Mick McParland. With the game won, Bob made two changes. Resting Mick and Russell for the games ahead, bringing on Alex and Marc. Marc took a little while to get up to pace with the game, understandable after his long absence. He soon found his touch, showing his calmness on the ball, playing some excellent defence splitting passes. Tower had a good spell for 10 minutes but there finishing was weak. Garry only having to make one fine save to maintain his clean sheet. Late on, one of Marc’s fine through balls found Bradley in space in front of goal, his shot slipping wide, a shame for Bradley as his tireless running and ability to hold the ball up made him my Man Of The Match.
3-0 and another fine team performance, the changes enforced on Bob show the quality and depth of our squad.
