The day didn't start well with the referee not appearing at FB fields.  With St. Martins only having arrived with 11 players Grouville sportingly provided a referee, with Jason Byrne and Mark Uprichard each taking charge for 45 minutes, ensuring both teams could play with 11 players. The lack of a match ball provided by the home side was quickly rectified, but unfortunately the reduced numbers in attendance, and subsequent lack of linesmen, did mean several disputed offside decisions during a generally good natured match.

Grouville started the match very strongly, with patient periods of possession and some excellent passing meaning complete control of the tempo of the match.  Within the first few minutes Grouville seized the initiative with Liam Nunn opening the scoring, on his premature return from a metatarsal break.  The Grouville side continued to dominate possession with some excellent passing moves and ball retention, and backed by a very strong wind reached the half way stage 5-0 to the good, with further goals by Ricci Cook, Paul Walker and Stevie Ashton (2).

Some positional changes made by the St Martin's side, together with the wind at their backs, saw the home team become a lot more competitive in the early stages of the second half.  Grouville continued to try to get the ball down and play the right kind of football, but seemed to have taken their foot of the pedal and started to lack some of the control and quality shown in the first period.

Midway through the first half two contentious decisions provided the talking points of the afternoon.  A seemingly innocuous challenge by Simon Stratford saw the Grouville match official (Mark) point to the spot, much to the dismay of the Grouville defence.  Despite Richard Dyer getting a strong hand to the ball the penalty was tucked away to make it 5-1.  Just 10 minutes later and it was the St. Martin's players who felt aggrieved as a sliding challenge by Paul Walker saw St. Martin's strong penalty appeals waved away - both teams would later agree that it was a rare occasion where two wrongs did make a right!

Conceding a goal seemed to reignite Grouville's passion and they again went on the offensive, creating a number of excellent chances and reintroducing some good movement and flowing football.  Further goals from Paul Walker and Garry McCrossan saw Grouvile extend their lead, and Stevie Ashton saw a goal ruled out for offside prior to an excellent strike nestling in the top right corner from 25 yards out to secure a deserved hat-trick.  Stevie turned down the offer of the Grouville training ball which had been used throughout the match!

Overall a strong performance from the Grouville side saw 2 recent defeats consigned to the history books to see Grouville move upto 4th and keep their title hopes well and truly alive.
