A Good Performance Without The Luck Our Efforts Deserve

1ST team:- Garry Lloyd -   Lee Sabiston - David Syvret - Russell Le Feuvre  - Joel Speight - Craig Northedge -  Calvin Ecobichan-Gray -  Jody MacCarthy -  Mick McParland -  Ryan Durrand - Scott Walsh
Substitutes played:  James Begley - Lee Hawkins

Three enforced changes from the St Paul’s starting 11, Luc and Jorge injured and Bradley cup tied. Coming in Jody, Craig, with Lee Hawkins on the bench.

The first fifteen minutes were a frantic affair, neither side finding their passes. Attacks came and went without troubling the goalkeepers.  The game settled down with defences in charge, most of the game played in the central third. The best opportunity came on 40mins. A free kick taken by the commanding Russell Le Feuvre, narrowly missing the left-hand upright.

0-0 a fair reflection of a weld matched first half.

Scottish came out a lot stronger, The Groove failing to get our passing game going and too often being second best in the tackles. The highlight for us was a dangerous cross by Calvin flashing across the Scottish goal.

Twenty minutes into the half, a free kick on the edge of the Scottish penalty area was wasted. Scottish broke quickly, too quickly for our defence to cope. The Scottish attacker slotting the ball past an exposed Garry Lloyd.

Again we responded well after going behind, James Begley coming on for Jody McCarthy, reverting to a back four with Joel Speight stepping forward into midfield. The Groove started to play much better, passes were starting to find thier man. A fine ove down the right wing, ending in a good cross by Begs, unfortunately finding no-one to convert. Lee Hawkins replaced Calvin. The game became stretched, defences being again dominant with few clear chances. Scottish certainly had the best of it and only a stunning full stretch save for Garry, keeping the score 1-0 to league leaders.

So out of the Le Riches Cup but as last week against St Paul’s a good performance, without the luck our efforts deserve.
