The game started perfectly with a stunning solo goal from Russell Le Feuvre, a great first touch created the space needed to drive the ball low into the far corner.

This was a false dawn, Trinity were to dominate much of the 1st half. We found winning the ball and then keeping hold of it very difficult. Trinity equalized with a powerful low drive, giving Garry Lloyd no chance. Trinity’s dominance continued without causing much danger in front of our goal, due to another strong defensive display. Our best chance to re-take the lead came from a powerful low drive from Luc Le Miere, the Trinity keeper finding the shot to much to handle, unfortunately Ryan Durand could not keep his follow up shot on target.

It was with a little relief the half time whistle blew. A chance to re-group for the second period. I was not party to what was said in the dressing room, but am sure, keeping our shape was the main topic of conversation. It worked, led by Russ and Jorge in the middle and with the tireless work along side of Scott and Luc, Trinity found it very difficult to get the ball. Chance after chance came and went. Scott Walsh missing what should have been a second goal early in the half. Garry Lloyd pulled of a stunning save low to his right, during a rare Trinity attack. James Begley, on a yellow card, was replaced by Dave Syvret and Michael Texiera replaced a worn out and my “Man of the Match” Ryan Durand.

Our discipline was maintained under some aggressive tackling from the opposition. One of these such tackles resulting in the winning goal. A defence splitting pass for Tex to run onto was stopped by an over quick referee’s whistle, bringing the play back for a free kick for a late challenge. This incensed our players, good job the resulting free kick found the head of Joel Speight, who coolly found the back of the net and was then to disappear under a sea of blue shirts.

The last 5 mins was a little nervous at times. Jody McCarthy replacing Luc Le Miere late on.

A very strong overall team performance, showing good fitness levels, determination and teamwork. 2-1 to “The Groove” Congratulations guys, 5 straight wins in all competitions.
