Match Highlights.... The back bone of the team was missing due to a school trip but it inspired a marvellous team performance from the 8 boys who turned up Sunday afternoon.
The game started very tight with a few boys having to play in unfamiliar positions. Henri Helie-Merrony was deputising in goal and looked comfortable from the start. In front of him he was supported by superb performances from Tomas Lyons playing right back and Mitchell Thebault-Tobin in the centre back position.
The first quarter saw Grouville take a well deserved lead as Jordan Hampton ran on to a great through ball from Charlie Ovenden and finished with confidence.
Quarter two saw Jersey Scottish equalise but not before Keenon O'Connell had seen his shot rebound off the post. Amazingly at half time it was one all but Grouville were by far the stronger team.
The third quarter saw Jersey Scottish take a surprise lead. Grouville equalised with the best move of the match. Sam Masefield's through ball was caught sweetly by Charlie Ovenden who saw his shot rebound of the bar for Jordan Hampton to poke home his 2nd of the game. Henri kept the scores level with a great double save at the feet of a Jersey Scottish forward. Two all at the end of Quarter 3.
As Grouville went into the last quarter the lack of substitutes took there toll on Grouville as they began to flag. They were caught on the break as a long ball deceived the defenders and was poked home to give Jersey Scottish the vital final goal.
A great team performance where everyone worked for each other as a TEAM. All 8 players were candidates for Man of the match. Henri in goal was outstanding. Jordan running a great line up front. Charlie and Sam in midfield working tireless. Max and Keenan's tireless box to box running and Mitchell arranging his defensive. But I think just shading it was Thomas Lyons playing in an unfamiliar position at right back and winning endless tackles and playing some great balls out of defence.
The returning boys will need to work hard for there places next game!
