5 Goals for Roberto Da Silveira in C Team Convincing Win

Substitute played: Jason Byrne

A 5th triple header in 6 weeks saw the Grouville C side with a reduced squad, with the starting 11 being assured of a 90 minute run out due to the lack of any replacements.  Despite this Grouville started well in control against a spirited St. John side, and retained possession of the ball for large periods during the early stages of the first half.  Grouville took the lead through a Jason Byrne free kick from 25 yards, the keeper failing to deal with a shot that was certainly not one of Jason's best.

Having broken the deadlock Grouville continued to dominate possession, with the St. John's forwards being made to do a lot of leg work closing down the Grouville back four.  With the midfield 4 providing excellent support, and the forwards looked dangerous each time the ball was moved forward, the early signs were that Grouville would be too strong for their opposition over the course of the 90 minutes.  Grouville's patient football continued to create numerous chances throughout the first 45 minutes and despite St. Johns hitting the cross bar, and having one effort excellently cleared off the line by Elvio da Silva, Grouville reached the break 3 goals ahead thanks to a double from Roberto da Silveira.

Grouville were quickly out of the traps in the 2nd half with Roberto sealing a well deserved hat-trick within a minute, and with the match effectively over at 4-0 there were periods of complacency from both sides at times in the second period.  That said the Grouville side continued to control the pace of the game with the midfield four and front two maintaining an excellent wok ethic throughout the match.  Two further goals in a minute saw Roberto cap a fine performance with 5 goals, and Paul Nicell, making a rare C team outing, should also be credited for his good movement and clever runs throughout the match.

Another good footballing performance, as well as a welcome clean sheet, saw Grouville keep up the pressure on the teams above them, and much to everyone's relief meant the last triple header of the season ended with a solid 3 points.
