Substitutes played: Joel Speight - Scott Walsh - David Syvret
Bob selected the same starting line-up for the third game in a row, having a subs bench containing Joel, Syvs and Scott Walsh. Showing the great strength of our squad.
A slow start needed something to liven things up and wow did we get it. A Rusty pass found Ryan in space on the right, his 1st touch was perfect, his second was even better to fire his shot across the stunned trinity keeper into the far top corner. Another Ryan Durand wonder strike.
This settled the early tensions and our game was more composed, the passing accurate and movement off the ball good. Midfield became a battle ground of tough tackling, our discipline throughout was solid under a lot of pressure. Jorge Marques’s non-stop running and determination saw him the brunt of many heavy challenges and Ken’s 1st aid skills were well tested to keep Jorge on the park for 90mins.
The second goal came from the penalty spot. Craig up for a corner was bundled over, Bradley Russell converting the spot kick with confidence.
Half-Time 2-0
The second half again saw “The Groove” getting off to a slow start, Trinity coming out determined to get back into the game. Chances came and went at both ends. Garry Lloyd again pulling off one great save, keeping hold of a blistering shot. Ryan Durand was withdrawn early in the half, suffering from a 1st half knock, replaced by Scott Walsh returning after suspension to become the star of the half. Joel Speight replaced Calvin. Our best early effort came from a fine glancing header from Joel, bringing out the best from the Trinity keeper. Scott soon settled the nerves, a wonder strike from the edge of the box. David Syvret replaced the tiring Jody late on. Again no clean sheet, a great shame after another solid defensive display. The ball lost easily on the half way line, Trinity breaking down the right to set up a shot to leave Garry with no chance of saving.
The response was instant, a long ball over the top of the Trinity defenders was chased down by Mick McParland, under his pressure the keepers weak clearance found Scott 35yrds out, his coolness lifted the ball over the stranded keeper into a gaping goal.
My Man of the Match Jorge Marques for another powerhouse 90mins.
4-1 and up to second, congratulations to all.
